Join us in celebrating our anniversary with a congratulatory note in our commemorative issue!
Forty years ago, a small group of Milwaukee teachers was frustrated with the whitewashed curriculum and rampant standardized testing that plagued their schools. They started exposing the harms of educational injustice and sharing stories of hope and inspiration through the pages of Rethinking Schools. Since then, Rethinking Schools has grown to reach educators in every U.S. state and all over the world.
Maybe you were given a copy of Rethinking Schools in your first year teaching and an article resonated with you. Maybe an article changed how you talked about race, power, or history with your students. Maybe you’ve quoted Rethinking Schools in a faculty meeting or handed an issue to a colleague or student who needed it.
You can add your name — and a short message of a maximum of 280 characters— to our 40th Anniversary Congratulations page with a $40 solidarity donation. It’s a meaningful way to celebrate four decades of movement journalism and to help make sure the next 40 years are just as possible.
To submit your note, make a $40+ solidarity donation here, and you will be prompted to leave your message at checkout.
To have your message included in the 40th anniversary commemorative issue, please submit your message by August 14, 2026.
Please reach out to marketing@rethinkingschools.org with any questions.
